emanuel tres is based on the idea that great wines can be made simply and efficiently to provide a sense of varietal, site, vintage and appellation. Using little or no oak provides a clean and balanced starting point for wines made to accompany great foods and made to be drank young capturing the freshness and vitality of the vineyard.

2013 Tinto Roberto

The 2013 Tinto Roberto from Larner Vineyards is a perfect display of the character of an Hermitage clone of syrah planted in the Santa Ynez Valley.

2013 was a terrific year for the production of wines made to age for the long haul. High acidity and low yields created wines of both finess and power with great concentration, yet elegant aromas and depth on the palate.

Fermented in open top containers, then finished in 10% new French oak, the wonderful fruit grown at Larner Vineyards by Michael and Christine Larner takes center stage in an elegant wine built for grilled meats and cheese.

• Emanuel Tres “Tinto Roberto” Syrah, Santa Ynez Valley, Larner Vineyard 2012 ($32): Named for Mr. Keller’s father, this syrah shows sweet, ripe fruit aromas from the get• go along with a pleasant and inviting savoriness. Racy dark fruit on the palate • blackberry, black plum and boysenberry • is well integrated with a sense of dry aged beef, olive tapenade, dried herbs, exotic spices and minerailty (of course!). But what keeps you coming back are the pristine flavors, clean and so expressive with the sweet ripeness of the fruit clearly spotlighted. Moderately bodied, with rich textural complexity and density, it displays a powerful elegance on midpalate and the finish.
