2014 emanuel tres viognier is made in the style of the Northern Rhone Valley to accentuate the high tone floral notes and the exotic character only viognier can provide. The grapes come from Camp 4 Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley where the warm days and cool, breezy nights combine for intense fruit components balanced with acidity providing structure and crispness on the palate.
Fermented in stainless steel and made with no secondary fermentation, this wine jumps out of the glass with fresh minerality, exotic aromatics and depth of fruit. Young and vibrant, this wine is drinking very well now, and, will have tremendous aging potential due to natural acidic structure and balance.
100% viognier, 200 cases produced.
• Emanuel Tres Viognier, Santa Ynez Valley, Camp 4 Vineyard 2014 ($23): This seems a little austere and foreboding on the nose. However, given time to warm up in the glass, it shows apricot and peach along minerality, wet stones and floral notes. That gives way to apricot, peach and nectarine skins on the palate, ripe but not sweet and with more incredible minerality. Not in the least blowsy like so many viogniers, this one is focused with pinpoint acidity to make the stone fruit flavors really pop in the mouth, all the way to the scintillating upbeat finish.
